Google unveiled the first Chromebook for gaming in the cloud – and therefore designed to work with services such as Nvidia GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Not having to play the latest generation of video games locally – but precisely using the cloud – these are computers that don’t require a state-of-the-art graphics card and therefore come at a relatively affordable price.

The computers are made in collaboration with Acer, ASUS and Lenovo. Google explains that these Chromebooks have a design that takes the needs of gaming into account, plus they come equipped with software designed to ensure a smooth and fast cloud gaming experience.

The laptops in question are the Acer Chromebook 516 GE, ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip And Ideapad Gaming Chromebook from Lenovo. Not a state-of-the-art graphics card, but to make up for it, they’ve got one 120Hz screen high resolution, backlit keyboards with RGBsupport to the Wi-Fi 6 (or WiFi 6E, depending on the model) and an audio compartment for the task.

Google explains that all three laptops have been independently tested by GameBench to confirm that they can indeed provide a world-class user experience when gaming in the cloud. Under optimal conditions, they can handle games at 120 fps with an input latency of less than 82ms.

Players can access the service GeForce NOW, using the service’s RTX 3080 GPU-based infrastructure. Nvidia’s cloud gaming catalog includes Fortnite, Cyberpunk 2077, and Crysis 3 Remastered, among others.

Google has also worked with Microsoft to ensure the best possible integration with the service Xbox Cloud Gaming. Players will still need to manually download a web app from the xbox.com/play portal.

With the purchase of any of the three laptops, you’ll receive a three-month free trial of Amazon Luna+ and NVIDIA GeForce NOW RTX3080 Tier 4.

From the beginning, the new Chromebooks for gaming will support the three main cloud gaming platforms: Xbox Cloud Gaming, NVIDIA GeForce NOW and Amazon Luna2. With the purchase of any of the three laptops, you’ll receive a three-month free trial of Amazon Luna+ and NVIDIA GeForce NOW RTX3080 Tier 4.

Lenovo’s new Acer Chromebook 516 GE, ASUS Chromebook Vibe CX55 Flip and Ideapad Gaming Chromebook will be available in select markets starting October. They will also arrive in Italy, but we will have to wait a little longer.

The tech chips of the gaming Chromebooks, in short

Details on the datasheets of the three new cloud gaming Chromebooks are still scarce. In addition, we don’t know if more versions will be available, with slightly different powers and specifications. To date we know that:
