In case of natural disastersthe half of the countries of the world it lacks multi-risk early warning systems to anticipate and handle emergencies appropriately. An alarm was raised by the message ‘Global Status of Multiple Hazard Early Warning Systems – Target G.‘, prepared by the World Meteorological Organization (WTO) and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.

During the presentation of the document, Antonio GuterresSecretary-General of the United Nations, called on countries to invest in early warning systems that can help save lives and money. Entire populations are overwhelmed by climate disasters cascade because there are no mechanisms to prevent them.

Many of the warning systems relate to only one type of natural phenomenon, such as cyclones for example, but the UN emphasizes the importance of investing in multi-risk systems. The United Nations, on March 23, on the occasion of the World Meteorology Day, had announced the goal of guaranteeing within five years a system capable of reporting extreme events to every inhabitant of the Earth. The action plan is presented by the WMO at the Cop27.

Acting immediately is important because, because of the climate changesThe number and frequency of catastrophic events around the world are increasing exponentially, such as the recent floods in Pakistan.
