Elon Musk Tesla his big car bet. Although this is not his only business, because. SpaceX also right there star linkTesla is a company that wants to revolutionize a sector that generates billions of euros a year.

Tesla’s big selling point, aside from design, exclusivity, and good electric motors, is the autonomous driving software that some of its cars use. Dubbed “Full Self-Driving”, this technology is a beta version that only a few customers have been able to enjoy…until now.

And that’s what the automaker has made this technology available to a growing number of driversgoing from a super-exclusive beta to a near-on-demand service (you have to pay for it separately, it’s not standard on the car).

As part of the Tesla conference, which discussed financial performance for the third quarter of 2022, Elon Musk said that the Full Self-Driving beta version should reach all customers who ordered it by the end of the year, as the software continues to be refined and improved.

The evolution of Tesla autonomous driving

Be sure to remind you, dear reader, that despite its name, the Tesla Full Self-Driving software is not a fully autonomous driving system. Elon Musk (and us) likes it better.

It is currently a set of advanced driver assistance tools that allow hands-free driving… but with a fully attentive driver, ready to take control of the vehicle at any moment.

However, Musk seems to be getting more and more confident in the FSD’s capabilities. As improvements are constantly being made, Musk said at the conference that “you almost never have to touch the controls of the vehicleduring work.

He also said that he believes Tesla will have enough data by next year to prove to regulators that the FSD is much safer than a human-driven vehicle. “we’re almost thereMusk assured.

Present tense approximately 160,000 Tesla owners are eligible to access FSD capabilities. This number has grown from 100,000 owners in September.

If this happens, the next expansion will match Musk’s previous estimates. However, it is not clear exactly how much the software purchased.

Since its launch, Tesla has steadily increased the cost of adding FSD beta features to vehicles it purchases.. In September, the cost rose to $15,000, nearly double what it was two years ago. At this point, it’s unclear if Tesla plans to raise the price again.

What does it mean for autonomous driving to go public?

Tesla has had problems with Autopilot ever since it was launched five years ago or so. As you understand, these problems are related to traffic accidents. Many of them are associated with death. What did not help its implementation.

Aside from these security concerns, US authorities have been carefully investigating Tesla’s Full Self Driving for a couple of years now, as they believe it could be defective software that Elon Musk would like to sell at any cost.

Despite everything, the American company managed to overcome all these years by releasing software updates that were able to improve and improve its operation. Does it lead to accidents? Yes, but they assure from Tesla that there are fewer people.

What Tesla is going to release Autopilotso that all your customers can buy additional, means that the system of autonomous driving has really reached a new level, one where they look confident enough not to pose a danger to drivers or the brand.

The last thing Tesla needs is a new investigation in which authorities find that the company has harmed its customers. just to earn more money and better experience their autonomous driving system.

As with SpaceX and Starlink, Elon Musk he always plays to the limit with his innovative companies, to the point where one wrong move can bankrupt them. It’s been very lucky so far, let’s see if it lasts.
