After a long wait Zoom confirmed to be in Tesla vehicles. The company made the announcement during its Zoomtopia 2022 event, where a short promotional video was shown showing — in general terms, of course — how the feature would work. The truth is that soon you will be able to join video conferences directly from the interior of your electric car without relying on your mobile phone or laptop.

As you can see from the above video, the service will use the interior camera located above the rear view mirror. At the same time, the video call itself will be available on the central Tesla screen. The demo shows that Zoom is accessed from an invitation that appears on the car’s calendar.

Not much is known about the operation of the platform and its integration with Tesla software (and hardware). The video hints that there will be an option to join the conversation. only when the car is stopped, which makes sense considering it can be distracting while driving. Specifically, a woman is seen entering a meeting with a colleague while her Model Y is parked and plugged into a charger.

Of course, this may change in the future when fully autonomous driving becomes available to the public. For now, though, this is just speculation. However, Zoom’s attempt to add compatibility with almost every possible platform is still interesting.

Zoom officially appeared in Tesla cars

As for the presence of Zoom in electric vehicles from Elon Musk, the information is somewhat vague. Nitasha Valiya, product manager for video calling software, simply said that it will be available soon. “on all new Tesla models”.

Undoubtedly, the expression is somewhat striking. Zoom is not a service that requires features that can only be found in certain vehicles manufactured by Tesla. At first glance, it seems that there are no obstacles for the tool to be added to the company’s current vehicles through a software update. But we’ll have to wait for more official details.

The truth is that both companies have agreed to promote a feature that users they’ve been saying for a long time. The first signs of Zoom in Tesla vehicles appeared in May 2020, when video conferencing usage began to skyrocket due to pandemic lockdowns.

Elon Musk himself admitted that this option is possible with a future software update. However, the matter never progressed beyond the stage of promises. Luckily, it’s official now, and very soon you’ll be able to make or join calls directly from the Tesla showroom.
