An AMD APU that we haven’t heard of for a year and a half has resurfaced. We last wrote about the ‘Mero’ chip at the end of 2020, when it was still considered an APU for data centers. Now this model has been spotted on a prototype AR headset from Magic Leap.

Twitter user _rogame Registered the Mero chip in the Basemark database. The Apu was used on a device called ‘Magic Leap Demophon’ running on Android 10. The 720×920 resolution is probably for one of the two displays on these AR glasses.

In terms of content, we know the chip from Mero is largely the same apu Van Gogh used on the Steam Deck. In other words, it’s a quad-core Zen 2 chip with RDNA2 graphics. The Mero seems to have more pcie lanes and other features on board, so it’s not exactly the same chip as Valve’s handheld gaming device.

This apu is likely used in Magic Leap 2, the AR glasses Magic Leap announced in March. Although many features of this headset have been announced before, no information about the processor has yet emerged. Magic Leap announced a partnership with AMD in December 2021.

Magic Leap 2 is primarily intended for business use.
