The first Wi-Fi 7 chipset is a reality with the third generation Qualcomm Networking Pro Series. Chip maker started sample to businesses the Pro 1620, 1220, 820 and 620. Consumers are expected to be able to use the new Wi-Fi technology for the first time in 2023.
The Wi-Fi 7 Wi-Fi standard brings major improvements, where Qualcomm has incorporated the chips into various configurations. One of the main advantages of Wi-Fi 7 is the throughput of about 10 gigabits per second at 320 MHz channel width.
For example, the top model of the network chip series, Qualcomm Networking Pro 1620, supports up to 33.1 Gb/s capacity spread across 16 multi-input/multi-output streams and corresponding 10 Gb/s per link. The so-called multi-connection technology dynamically distributes the Wi-Fi connection over different spectrums of Wi-Fi 7. A device may or may not simultaneously use the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz spectra. This prevents accumulation on a bandwidth.
Due to scalability, third-generation Pro chips are primarily designed for (large) companies and public spaces. After all, dedicated gamers and enthusiasts can of course use the chip at home in premium routers as well, but it is not yet known when manufacturers will find applications for the chips.
