An unusual and excessive amount of rain that fell on São Paulo’s north coast between Saturday (18) and Sunday (19) caused landslides and flooding in cities in the region. In some municipalities, the amount of precipitation in the 24-hour period exceeded 600 millimeters.

The cities most affected by the rain were Bertioga (683 mm) and São Sebastião (627 mm). The cities of Ubatuba, São Sebastião, Ilhabela, Caraguatatuba and Bertioga had a state of disaster decided by the provincial governor, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans). The government announced that it has earmarked R$7 million for Civil Defense to carry out work in the area.
Weather services forecasts that from this Monday (20) the rains will lose their strength in the region, which could aid efforts to rescue victims and clean up cities.
