Sonos offers the first proprietary volume control with Volume Control, which must be built entirely for listening on Sonos. The manufacturer also states that privacy should be paramount, allowing you to control your Sonos system with your voice.

Voice Control works on any Sonos speaker with speech recognition and must process commands entirely on the device itself. No audio recordings or transcripts are sent to the cloud and are not stored, listened to, or read. The audio experience is available on new products with speech recognition and as a free update for existing customers and is compatible with Sonos Radio, Apple Music, Deezer and Pandora. Over time, more services and markets should follow.

According to Sonos, since your orders are processed entirely on the device, faster response times and easier tracking should be possible. This way you only need to say ‘Hey Sonos’ once and there is no need for the activation word afterwards. Just like the Sonos app, you can control music and speakers in any room, move music from one room to another, save and enjoy your favorite songs in your own music library, and more.

The voice of Giancarlo Esposito (known for his roles in Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and The Mandalorian) is meeting with customers in the US, but will be added with other voices later as the software expands to new people and places. Voice Control will be available to users in the US starting June 1, then France and other markets later this year.
