Arm shared its financial results for the 2021 fiscal year ending March 31, 2022. The chip designer had record sales of US$2.67 billion, up 35% from the previous year. EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes and amortization of assets, loans and goodwill) was $1 billion, or 68% more than in fiscal 2020.
Most smartphones and tablets have an Arm chip.
This growth is driven by 29.2 billion Arm-based chip sales, 7.8 billion of which were in the fourth quarter. As a result, license revenues rose to $1.13 billion (+61%), while $1.54 billion (+20%) was earned from royalties. While the license fee is dependent on the use of Arms designs, manufacturers must pay a royalty for each Arm-based chip produced.
According to CEO Rene Haas, these record results show that demand for Arm technology has never been greater. Our ecosystem will power next-generation technology revolutions in industries including automotive, IoT and cloud computing by investing in our roadmaps and engineers.”
