Tesla announced a future opening new gigafactory in shanghai, China, to complement one of the plants the company already has in California that are definitely not designed to produce electric vehicles. The new Gigafactory in Shanghai, in fact, will be intended for the production of mega-packshuge batteries designed to store energy.

The Shanghai Gigafactory will begin construction in late 2023 and is expected to open sometime in the first half of 2024.The plant will be able to produce up to 10,000 Megapacks per year.. Each battery, Tesla points out, is capable of storing 3 MWh of energy; enough to power 3,600 homes for one hour. The company also noted Bloomberg that batteries made in Shanghai will be distributed all over the world.

Elon Musk, for his part, said on Twitter that the new Shanghai plant will serve as a “complement to the products of the Megapacks factory in California”. It’s not clear if the batteries made in China will go to the Megapack factories that Tesla has in places like Australia or Texas, or if the company will open new storage facilities.

We reiterate that megablocks are batteries designed for large-scale energy storage, and they eliminate some of the disadvantages of traditional power plants, such as power outages.

Tesla is also working on building a Gigafactory in Mexico.

Tesla is also working on the construction of a new Gigafactory in Mexico, designed to produce next-generation vehicles. Although there are no details on this, it is likely that this is the Model 2, Tesla’s rumored cheap electric car.

The Gigafactory in Mexico will also be the largest electric car factory in the world, located on an esplanade with a total area of 1,200 hectares, although only 40 hectares will be dedicated to the plant itself. López Obrador, the current President of Mexico, also revealed that this will not be the only facility Tesla will open in the country. It is also expected that the firm will build a plant for the production of products for the aviation industry, as well as a plant for the production of batteries.
