Apple’s new series is about the leader of the Black Panther

“The Big Cigar” is a 6-episode drama that tells the story of the escape of Black Panthers leader Huey P. Newton to Cuba and is based on the monumental magazine article of the same name. The first two episodes will be released on May 17.

“The Big Cigar” is the incredible true story of the Hollywood revolution meeting the social revolution: The crazy story of how Black Panther founder Newton escapes from the FBI and travels to Cuba. With the help of famed producer Bert Schneider, he devises an incredibly elaborate plan (involving a fake movie production) that goes wrong in every way possible.
On a technical level, the series promises the best. The first two episodes will be directed and produced by multi-award winning Don Cheadle.
André Holland heads an acclaimed cast that includes Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone and PJ ByrneMarc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie and Glynn Turman.
Apple TV+ premieres confirmed for 2024 vary across different genre offerings. These include the docuseries “Franklin” starring Michael Douglas, “Sugar” starring Colin Farrell, the series based on William Gibson’s sci-fi novel “Neuromancer” and the best of MLS for football fans.
