With its aura of family adventures and Latin flair, blue beetle aims to renew the superhero genre. It doesn’t happen – it’s hard to fight fifteen years of similar stories – but it brings something different. A new path that DC decided to take after previous failures.

Has the franchise canon been updated with Angel Manuel Soto’s film? In fact, the plot marks the end of one stage and the beginning of another. While revolving around the origins of an obscure superhero, the script focuses on describing the obvious. From how he acquired his powers to how his family and his community share some of the responsibility they bring with them. It’s obvious that blue beetle tries to get away from the epic tone of previous productions. The film shows that DC’s new scene will focus more on the comics and the human aspect of its characters.

Something that underlies the two post-credits scenes. One of them is of particular interest, while the other can be interpreted as a tribute to Mexican culture, which plays an important role in the story. We tell you everything you need to know about them and what they mean for the future of the franchise, imagined by James Gunn.

first extra sequence

As with most modern superhero films, the first bonus sequence comes after the main credits. This allows the argument to connect directly to the comic it’s coming from, while at the same time providing an indication of what might happen to blue beetle in future.

In the opening scenes of the film, the script reveals that Ted Kord, Jenny’s (Bruna Marquesin) father, has gone missing. Which allows her sister Vicki (Susan Sarandon) to take control of the company that bears her last name.

A fact that is partly related to the context of the story of the original Jaime Reyes (Xolo Maridueña). In the cartoons, Kord is the heir to the superhero costume, which, although it does not have powers, protects him from aggression and violence. The point that hints blue beetle when describing what the company does. In the film version, Ted becomes possessed by the bug and tries to figure out how it works. Which seems to lead him to a potentially fatal mistake that at the very least prevents him from returning to his people.

future blue beetle

Before causing a catastrophe that will make him disappear and possibly take his life, Ted Kord spends his time trying to imitate the mysterious bug’s mechanism. While he creates several versions that don’t exactly look like the original artifact, they allow him to come up with some interesting technological feats. Which gives him the chance to fight crime in a special suit and somehow become the first Blue Beetle.

The entire set of materials and finds is located in the same vault that Jenny and Jaime’s family visit during the course of the story.

The first post-credits scene again shows the same room where you can see Ted’s costumes and a computer screen. Suddenly, it turns on to receive a transmission. An unknown voice insists that he loves Jenny and states that her father is alive. The sequence doesn’t add much, but it establishes with complete certainty that the enigmatic character will return to become part of the protagonist’s context.

second scene after credits

Second additional sequence blue beetle is tribute to the mexican community, an element of great importance in the plot of the film. So it hardly lasts more than a minute. This is a short cartoon video that Uncle Rudy Reyes (George Lopez) used to gain access to Kord Industries’ security systems.

As you remember, Jaime and Jenny are trying to hack into the security system of the company building in order to get the key to Kord Manor. The idea of a relative of the hero was to replace the image on the video from surveillance cameras with a short fragment of a Mexican cartoon. It’s nothing less than known Chapulin Colorado, a character of immense popularity in Mexico. This is the scene that finally ends the film.
