Meta has announced the launch of its own digital clothing store for avatars on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger, now users can buy clothes to customize their style and use big brands as allies.

According to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the Avatars Store will launch gradually over the next week, offering digital apparel from three of the world’s most iconic fashion brands: Balenciaga, Prada and Thom Browne.

For now, users will be able to purchase these digital outfits and choose the available options for the avatar on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger for free.

Three-dimensional (3D) avatars arrived on Facebook, Instagram and Messenger in February of this year. With them, Meta sought to pave the way for the metaverse to be implemented across all its services.

The announcement was made in an I.Instagram Live with Eva Chen, Vice President of Meta Fashion Partnerships, and opportunities are created for brands and businesses, as some will be directly linked to services available in the metadata warehouse.

Among his future goals, Zuckerberg said he hopes designers don’t need materials to make their creations, and that “anyone with a computer and imagination” can do it.

He then stated that he hoped digital products would serve for self-expression and would be “a great catalyst for the creative economy.” He also predicted his intention to bring this venture into virtual reality (VR).

The Meta Avatars Store will be gradually rolled out in Canada, the United States, Mexico, and Thailand next week.

“You can learn how to create your avatar in Meta on Instagram, Facebook, and Messenger. We hope to bring the Avatar Shop to other brands soon as well as augmented reality,” the company said.
