The Armenian-born capo Carlos Lehder Rivas, who founded the Medellín cartel with Pablo Escobar, one of the most brutal in drug trafficking history, spent 33 years in prison in the United States.. There was no information about him since he was released from prison, but he resurfaced in a surprise interview with W Radio on February 16.
He was extradited to his North American country on February 4, 1987. Sentenced to life imprisonment; but he took advantage of a deal he witnessed in a case against Panamanian dictator Manuel Antonio Noriega.
He was liberated on 15 June 2020. He went to Germany as soon as he was deported. As reported by the EL TIEMPO Investigation Unit, members of an NGO detected him on the European continent with the greatest possible secrecy. As reported, he holds German citizenship.

In an unexpected and short call, 73-year-old Lehder spoke to the ‘W Radio’ network to confront author Lorena Salazar, who is developing the book ‘My Hands are Burning by Carlos Lehder’. The former narcotic accused him of being behind a “literary scam” as he did not authorize him for the said text about his life. He also announced that legal action would be taken against Ecuador.
He then laughed several times at the insistence of journalist Julio Sánchez Cristo, who assured him that he had been chasing him for years.
“I’m telling you my priorities back then were different. I was already rehabilitated or rehabilitated between the Colombian government and the United States,” he said, before being interrupted by the ringing of a cell phone.
“Excuse me, but in this cybernetic world there is a world with a phone, an internet and a computer, and I’m… I kindly learned of a phone call on the plane I was kicked off from Washington,” he said, apologizing for not knowing how to turn off the distracting sound.
