Russian luxury car brand Aurus has started production of Aurus Senat sedans in Abu Dhabi. The name of the local partner is not revealed.
“Production started today. Senat and Komendant are scheduled to be released. Let’s start with Senat,” said Denis Manturov, head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, in an interview with RIA.
Assembly was scheduled to begin in 2024, but the project is being completed ahead of schedule. In the future, it is planned to open a salon for the sale and customization of Aurus cars in the United Arab Emirates.
Manturov said the UAE should become “a kind of hub” for the supply of Aurus cars in the region. The company hopes to supply cars to Saudi Arabia and other Middle Eastern countries.
Aurus LLC was created at the end of 2017 on the basis of NAMI-auto. Initially, 75% of the company belonged to NAMI, the remaining 25% to Sollers, which became the productive partner of the project.
In 2019, the Tawazun fund from the United Arab Emirates bought a 36% stake in Aurus for €110 million, which the investment company was to invest in production within three years. Additionally, Tawazun has become the general distributor of Aurus in MENA countries. After the transaction, NAMI retained 63.5% of the Aurus brand and Sollers 0.5%.
