playstation game Grand Touring This is one of the most successful ways to replicate the driver’s driving experience, but his arguments go no further. For this reason, its film adaptation was meant to turn its main argument into an engaging story for a wider audience. To that end, director Neill Blomkamp boldly tells his story, showing a video game as the first step to success. But that’s all.
Plot of the film Grand Touring is actually based on racing driver Jann Mardenborough (Archie Madekwe). Who became a famous racer after years of playing experience. In essence, the film shows how a young fan begins his path to success outside of the game console. Which turns the plot into a story of overcoming that also includes an indirect homage to the PlayStation game.
However, despite the potential of the idea, the film remains a mere cliche, unable to compete with other fantastic full-length films about highways. His biggest problem is that he can’t go beyond a general formula supported by the popularity of the material he pays homage to.
Grand Touring
Neil Blomkamp’s film attempts to mimic the excitement of a video game, but fails. Based on the true story of race car driver Jann Mardenborough, the script follows a young video game lover’s journey to the professional circuits. But the adaptation has little to offer other than a sentimental story based on a sports drama. Of course, there are plenty of references to Gran Turismo as a cultural phenomenon, but they all seem artificial and forced. With its foreseeable end, the film will disappoint players and, especially, fans of film adaptations based on motorsport.
Adaptation improvement
The combination works well for the first hour of the story. The screenplay by Jason Hall and Zach Bailin shows the timing of the events that led to Jenn’s success. What does the emergence of the initiative include GT Academymade nissan and promoted by Marketing Director Darren Cox.
In his fictional version Danny Moore (Orlando Bloom) is an idealist, convinced that Grand Touring it can be a source of new talent. A conviction that forces him to rush things, so that Yann is put under the supervision of a former broker. Jack Salter (David Harbour). Further – joint efforts to success, which will lead the protagonist to the realization of his dream in real competitions.

But the script Grand Touring He can’t take risks either in the plot or in the visual part. What a movie based on an adrenaline experience can’t afford. The narrative seems to be a limited set of scenes that emphasize that the real world is very different from what is on video consoles.
The director, who demonstrated his skills in District No. 9 for emotionally complex conflicts, he doesn’t seem to know what to do with a simpler story. Much more when he misses the opportunity to use great sequences on the track or the emotions of a victory, which, although predictable, can be told less directly.
Weakness of Gran Turismo
The film can combine the emotions of the original game and the experience of one of its players into a single story. Moreover, it was thanks to the combination of both that Jan Mardenborough became an important figure in racing. But Grand Touring he fails to successfully combine them, and they end up being two stories in one. On the one hand, the desire of a young man to succeed, on the other, an obvious tribute to the phenomenon of mass culture.
The plot stops working when it turns into a series of predictable scenes. Yann’s battle to overcome her failures and doubts and the predictable confrontation with her father. Gradually, the narrative moves to the track, but the way the competition is shown is too obvious and boring. Collection of sharp turns and close-ups of the car. For a product based on a game known for its visual innovation, the error is regrettable.
Grand Touring this is not an option for fans of the console experience who expect to find the same thrill and visual hazard in a movie theater. Not for fans of the genre of automotive circuits.
The film turns out to be a side product, too simple and offering nothing. Which turns his final theme – halfway between sports and family drama – into an overly sugary conclusion. One of the most obvious problems when it comes to connecting to traditional players on video consoles.
