Ribbon Snow Society, tells the story of one of the worst tragedies in Latin America. Director Juan Antonio Bayona devoted time to a detailed recreation of Pablo Vierci’s 2008 book of the same name. From what I’m arguing, it’s a much more accurate account of what happened after the crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 than many other cinematic efforts.. At the same time, it did something that other productions had missed. This is the inclusion of Argentine and Uruguayan talent in the lead roles of the survivors. In addition, the filming was carried out in Spanish, which allowed the plot to reach a completely new level of realism and closeness to the event.

But Bayona took his interest even further and created a film that would pay tribute to both those who died and the survivors of what happened. To do this, he traveled to real locations for panoramic shots and also analyzed several group readings in detail. From taking into account the climatic conditions of the time, the furnishings of clothing and objects, recreating images to the possible state of health of the survivors. Nothing is missing in this shocking refutation of an event that surprised and shocked the whole world.

However, one of the exciting details of the film was the inclusion of several survivors as extras and cameo roles in scenes of particular importance. Thus, the director’s decision allowed him to pay tribute to the event from an emotional point of view. In the same time, to make it clear that what is shown on screen is as close to the truth as fiction can offer.

Of the 16 survivors, three appear in key scenes in the film. We’ll tell you what they are and how important it is that the production team decided to add them as part of their own on-screen story. A curious cinematic phenomenon, which undoubtedly adds meaning and significance to the moral and ethical dilemmas that the film raises. As well as its questionable verisimilitude.

Carlos Paez Rodriguez

The young man was eighteen years old when he became lost in the Andes mountain range and had to fight to survive. He was part of the Old Christians rugby team. In “The Snow Society”, he is briefly seen playing his father. Uruguayan artist Carlos Paes Vilaro.

The scene shows the moment when the artist carefully repeats the names of the survivors. And there is a note there: “Carlos Paez, my son.” For this occasion, Carlos Paez himself plays his father, who never lost hope of finding him alive.. The joke is told in the book Between my son and me the moon Paesa Vilaro, published 1982.

Roberto Canessa

This fleeting appearance may not be noticeable if the viewer is not paying attention. But this does not diminish the emotions. The film, which lasts a few minutes, shows the rescue of Roberto Canessa (Mathias Recalt), who is supported by several doctors and nurses. In the back room you can see the figure of a gray-haired and peaceful-looking man. This is the real Roberto Canessa, who thus participates in the reconstruction of his own history.

At 19, the survivor was in his second year of medical school and played rugby in his spare time. Due to his knowledge of anatomy and natural sciences, he was considered the group’s doctor at the time of the tragedy. A group of 16 survivors consider him part of a miracle as he was able to keep his life.

Fernando Parrado

Also making a brief and significant appearance in The Snow Society is the man directly responsible for rescuing the survivors of the fateful Flight 571. In this case, at an airport. He is an elderly man with graying hair, giving way to the actress Alfonsina Carrosio, who plays his sister Susana, the victim of an accident, in the work of fiction.

The 22-year-old rugby player suffered a serious concussion that left him unconscious for several days. He eventually came to his senses and after two months decided to walk for help. which will be the key to saving the rest of the group.
