Series Griselda, from Netflix, details the life of one of the most brutal drug traffickers in Colombian history. Specifically, how it became a bridge between the cities of Medellin and Miami during the height of the war on drugs. By that time, the 1980s had already passed, and the moment of the bloodiest confrontation between the two fronts had arrived. On the one hand, there are Colombian cartels seeking to control drug trafficking and distribution in Latin America. At the other extreme is the battle in Miami for control of territory.
Griselda Blanco (portrayed by Sofia Vergara in the fiction) managed to stay in the middle of the situation and profit. Much more than that, the creation of a criminal empire so gigantic that it can rival any older one. Over time, the criminal became the leader of a criminal structure capable of not only transporting people from one side of the border to the other. At the same time, to dominate and destroy smaller groups that tried to challenge activities related to the marketing of medicines, as well as what is associated with their management between organizations.
The series tells all of the above in a fictional tone. But some of its major events are real and part of a tragic chronicle of a particularly brutal moment in Colombia. We tell you what the three real crimes that are described in the story are. At the same time, the way the plot brought them together to analyze the life of a woman turned into a sad myth due to her cruelty and bloodthirsty nature.
Black Widow
At various times in the series, the heroine is called the Black Widow due to several murders committed against her romantic partners. This is a real event. Griselda Blanco ran away from home after being sexually abused by her stepfather. At age 19, she met her first husband, Carlos Trujillo, the father of her three children. He was a serious criminal from whom Griselda escaped in the midst of a violent situation. But first he confronted him and seriously injured him. Which became part of the rumors surrounding the drug dealer.

Now, ten years later, the criminal met Alberto Bravo, whom she killed with the help of a hitman after discovering that he was cheating on her. But beyond the idea of a sentimental event, it was a means of damage control designed to prevent this man from selling or sharing data about his criminal organization. This led her to decide to kill him before they could separate and trigger an even more complex rift between the various cartels contested in Medellin.
Finally, Griselda was romantically involved with Dario Sepulveda, whom she would also kill once they broke up. According to Blanco, he would have done this to avoid disputes over custody of the child they conceived during the relationship. But various sources, including the DEA report, insists that the crime was an attempt by the drug trafficker to avoid a territorial confrontation.
Federal charges against Griselda Blanco
While the series doesn’t directly mention the Medellin cartels, it does focus on the idea that Blanco had to make his way to Miami during the height of the violence. In the first and second chapters you can see Sofia Vergara’s character fleeing her first husband. Which brought her to North America and an attempt to find a place in the country’s Latin criminal underworld.

While all of the above happened to varying degrees, what is most interesting is what will become the central point of the real story of Griselda Blanco. The reason for initiating a criminal case against him was the fact that he sold drugs in Miami and facilitated sales between the city and visitors from Medellin. In 1975, Blanco was formally charged with one count of conspiracy to traffic drugs. This is together with 30 subordinates. What was the largest and most significant case?being investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration regarding probable cause of drug trafficking.
“Cocaine Cowboy Wars” or war between gangs
In six episodes, the series attempts to tell a complex and expansive story at its most famous moments. One of them was the gang war that turned Blanco into the center of all Colombian criminal operations in North America. The production depicts the true story, albeit with altered dates and locations, that led to a drug dealer becoming the subject of care. Gradually, from trying to sell a shipment of cocaine to a criminal in Miami, the character expands his influence on all levels.

But beyond that, he became the center of all kinds of violent situations that made him the leader of the criminal world. And this while an increasingly cruel and bloody war was going on around them, leaving behind hundreds of victims. The real event that the plot tells about, recreating some about the brutal murders ordered by Griselda, as well as about her irreconcilable character.
