The HBO television network has begun development of the first sequel to its successful fantasy drama: A live-action drama centering on fan favorite character Jon Snow.

Series original actor Kit Harington has agreed to reprise the role should the project continue. The actor was nominated for two Emmys for his performance on Game of Thrones, so there’s no two without three.

Ever since Harington finished off all eight seasons of Thrones, he’s been in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a lead role in 2021’s Eternals.

The development marks an intriguing new direction for HBO from the fantasy universe of writer George RR Martin. It’s a move no different from the management of the Star Wars and Marvel brands, where Disney+’s streaming services have released sequels focusing on specific characters.

For example: WandaVision (starring Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor reprises his iconic role).

Perhaps the most daring from a creative standpoint, The project would turn the final season of Thrones upside down as the final word on the characters’ fates. Survivors of the HBO series.

In theory, The project could open the door to the reappearance of other surviving characters from the universe of Thrones.as Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie).

With this news, there are seven Thrones projects currently in progress, in addition to the next House of the Dragon prequel series, which will hit theaters on August 21. It tells the story of a civil war within House Targaryen and takes place nearly 200 years ago.
