A new generation of Qualcomm’s most powerful processor can finally compete with Apple’s chips. Snapdragon 8 Generation 2, which will be officially announced next November, was spotted in a Geekbench benchmark that was apparently run on a Samsung Galaxy S23; a smartphone that could be announced next year. The test reveals some technical details of the SoC, as well as an important Improved processor performance over the previous generation.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will be manufactured on a 4nm process and will feature an octa-core processor configuration that is somewhat different from its predecessor. We find, on the one hand, four cores running at 2.80 GHz, on the other three, running at 2.02 GHz. reaches 3.36 GHzspeed, which in performance tests allows you to get not only a score similar to the A15 Bionic chip included in the iPhone 14and also outperforms it in multi-core tests.
In particular, the iPhone 14 and its A15 Bionic chip are able to score 4501 points, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scores 4597 points. Compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, we also see important differences.. In single-core tests, the new SoC from the American company scores 1524 points against 1218 points from its predecessor. In multi-core tests, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scored 4597 points, while Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is able to score between 3500 and 3700 points.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will not only be more powerful, but also more efficient.
It appears that Qualcomm has also improved the power efficiency of its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Thanks in part to the new Cortex-X3 core, which has 25% better performance over the Cortez-X1 Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm’s SoC will also include two Cortex-X3 cores. A715, which 20% more efficient and 5% more powerful than the Cortex A710, which will also be part of two of the three cores capable of running at 2.02GHz.
