During the introduction of the M2 soc last week, Apple promised an 18% performance increase over its predecessor and up to 35% improvement in the case of the integrated GPU. In anticipation of new MacBooks with this processor, a Geekbench 5 test has already surfaced that better describes the actual performance level.

The M2 has a clock speed of 3.49 GHz compared to 3.2 GHz on the M1.

Based on this initial comparison, Apple’s claim appears to be correct: the M2 scores a single-core and a multi-core score of 1,919 and 8,928, respectively, making it 11.5% and 19.4% faster than the M1. Considering the Metal score of 30,627, the integrated GPU performs comparatively better. The M2’s ten graphics cores are 45.8% more powerful than the previous eight cores in this workload.

In addition to the redesigned MacBook Air, the new 13-inch MacBook Pro will also feature the M2. The Pro is expected to hit the market next month with a starting price of at least 1,619 euros from June 24, and its younger sibling at 1,519 euros.
