The Battle of Resa del Grajo opened the door to the unthinkable. House of the Dragon. The first real confrontation between the dragons of the different factions of the Targaryen family left devastation in its wake. Not only because it was the scene that nearly killed King Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney), but also because it caused the death of Rhaenys (Eve Best) and her mythical steed Meleys.
So the outcome of the standoff was equally serious for both sides. But above all, it was a milestone. If previously there had been the possibility of peace – through negotiations or agreements – wounds, deaths and tears within the clan put an end to them.
Episode 5 of Season 2 House of the Dragon He quickly clarifies that this schism has more consequences than just wounds between the green and black. Director Claire Kilnercon, through Ty Mikkel’s script, cleverly explores the immediate aftermath of everything that happened in the “Battle of the Rook.” But at the same time, he does something more intelligent: he suggests that the war scenario will face a twist that suggests more than just a challenge between enemies vying for the Iron Throne. Also that the atmosphere in the capital of the continent is becoming increasingly tense and close to rebellion. Who could benefit from such a situation? The plot deepens as unknown terrain is explored. So what happens from this point on in Dance of the Dragons is a scenario that neither side can predict.

The king is wounded, long live the regent!
New chapter House of the Dragon makes it clear that the old mandate of male supremacy that kept Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) from the throne still holds. It does so by exploring the fact that, among both the greens and the blacks, the intelligent and often wise voices of women close to power are completely ignored. In the case of the Black Queen, her caution is mistaken for weakness. Much more so until Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) He remains absent from Dragonstone, weakening his wife’s position and rights.
But for Damon, this seems like a minor problem. Especially when his own ambitions for power force him to make decisions that, at first glance, seem chaotic and ill-considered. Scenario House of the Dragon He rightly points out the King Consort’s particularly confused and weak moment. Still in ancient Harrenhal, he seems unable to make a conscious decision about where to direct his efforts. That, plagued by unpleasant dreams— some are particularly disturbing – and he struggles to maintain his sanity.
Things are no better at the Red Keep. After the debate in which Alicent (Olivia Cooke) was forced to abandon any desire for power in favor of Aemond (Ewan Mitchell), the whole situation around her seems to have become increasingly tense. Especially since the young prince, now regent, is far more cruel, direct, and strategic than his brother ever was. And then there is Vhagar, the largest dragon in Westeros, the most dangerous and, so far, undefeated. As its rider, Aemond wields complete power. and a situation which a weak and wounded king like his brother could not cope with.
War in the hands of dragons
Most of the chapter House of the Dragon — back on the scene of political intrigue — seeks to show that true power comes from fire. This includes the number and type of dragon riders available to each side. This view means that Aemond has everything to win and is feared in much of the land. Vhagar faced and defeated two dragons renowned for their strength and, especially, for being among the most emblematic creatures of the Targaryens. So, the playing field moves towards the Green Court.
House of the Dragon It also explores how Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) deals with his grief. Filled with pain and hungry for revenge, he doesn’t know where to direct his efforts. So Rhaenyra gives him the opportunity to display his pain – and presumably his desire for revenge – as her Hand. It’s a strategically brilliant suggestion, as the Black Queen could consider the ships of her former father-in-law’s family as part of her army. More important is his knowledge now that Damon has his own plans.
On the other hand, Prince Jace (Harry Collette) has won a decisive victory in negotiations with the Tullys, and this gives him an opportunity to demonstrate his diplomatic skills. Better yet, let him know that your mother has brilliant, measured, tactical support in resolving more subtle issues. However, the big problem to deal with is still dragons. Who can defeat Vhagar?
An unexpected turn that could change everything
Perhaps because of the above, the chapter ends with an important conversation between the Red Queen and her son. They both come to the conclusion that they need dragons. But also racers. So House of the Dragon moves in a direction that should be familiar to readers: the exploration of dragon seeds. which is nothing more than the descendants of the Targaryens, capable of laying claim to one of the mythical beasts.
Given this possibility, one thing is certain: the series will see a power struggle in the air and between flames. A terrifying point that could turn both sides and everything they love and protect into ashes.This is the hardest thing the Black Queen has to do.
