To the surprise of the fans, Netflix just included a bonus episode in the first season Sandman. This is a chapter divided into two separate stories, brought together by the presence of Morpheus (Tom Sturridge). Both are part of the vast literary world of Neil Gaiman and unexpectedly come into a television adaptation of their most beloved work. Dreams of a thousand cats D calliope, are part of the mythology of the original comic and complete the story of Eternal Dream as the Dream King. An addition that surprises with its good work and improved plot construction.
A few days ago, images of an additional episode appeared Sandman leaked to YouTube almost by accident. Immediately, several screenshots showed an unexpected addition to the main plot. Now, two weeks after the premiere, the platform has officially added the episode.
It consists of Dreams of a thousand catsone of the most popular short stories in the Gaiman universe, appearing in Volume 18 Sandman. Secondly, calliope tells the story of one of the great arches surrounding Morpheus and includes his love story for the muse of the same name.
A new vision for the world of Sandman
Part one of the special chapter Sandmantitled the same as the original work The dream of a thousand cats, is based on a short story written by Gaiman himself that delves into the idea of dreams as a creative force. This is an animated short film about how a Siamese cat searches for answers after a cruel tragedy. The vocal line-up includes Sandra Oh, Rosie Day, David Gyasi, James McAvoy and David Tennant. In addition, brief participation by Michael Sheen and Tom Wu.
The production design is handled by Hisko Halsing. As he explained, the short is the result of a collaborative effort to create a visual version of the story. And one that looked more like the original. “We are aiming to make an animated version of [del relato] be as captivating and hypnotic as possible. We use the magic of real oil paintings on canvas. We combine them with 2D animation using classic drawing techniques and based on realistic 3D animation. Cats communicate telepathically, creating an amazing world that seems connected to the earth and the dreamer at the same time.”
On the other hand, calliope tells the story of Richard Madoc, a disillusioned writer who ends up kidnapping the muse through magic, which causes the Dream King’s furious revenge. In the midst of the horrors that the divine daughter of Zeus suffers, she calls on Morpheus to come to her aid. The narrative includes Melissanti Mahut as the main character, as well as Arthur Darvill, Kevin Harvey, Amita Suman, and Derek Jacobi.
