Star Wars is the most important movie franchise in the world. Or at least one of the most important in the audiovisual scene for more than four decades. Since George Lucas released Star Wars: A New Hope, the world of science fiction has changed.

Now, in August 2022, we have 9 films that are part of the main saga, several films that are considered spin-offs that explain parallel or related stories, and many series that further expand the universe.

For all those who want to know how to watch all the movies of the saga and what is the correct order to watch them in order not to miss any links, you are in luck because we are going to explain it right now.

The first is the simplest: the only way to watch Star Wars movies is to create a Disney+ account. a subscription streaming service that gives access to all the content of an American company. Of course, you can also buy movies on DVD or Blu-ray.

And now we get to the tricky part, arranging the movies in chronological order so you don’t miss anything while watching them.. What is the difference between the year of publication of these works, which were published from 1977, until the last year 2019. Almost nothing.

Star Wars Skywalker. Sunrise

Chronological order

  • Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1997)
  • Star Wars. Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)
  • Star Wars. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
  • Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
  • Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
  • Star Wars. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
  • Star Wars. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)
  • Star Wars. Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
  • Star Wars. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
  • Star Wars. Episode IX: Skywalker. Sunrise (2019)

According to experts, this is the correct order when watching movies as it is chronological. That is, events occur backwards. So the story is pretty clear.

The big problem with this kind of view is that we learn about plots and mysteries that we didn’t originally think about.. And if when we watched episodes 4, 5 and 6 at one time and the denouement struck us, then if you watch the films in this new order, the endings lose their power.

Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope

Theatrical Release Order

Despite this, George Lucas has always advocated that his films can be watched in the order they came out, which is the most “normal and realistic” experience to enjoy the story of the saga.

This new list will remain so.

  • Star Wars. Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
  • Star Wars. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
  • Star Wars. Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)
  • Star Wars. Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1997)
  • Star Wars. Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)
  • Star Wars. Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
  • Star Wars. Episode VII: The Force Awakens (2015)
  • Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
  • Star Wars. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
  • Han Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
  • Star Wars. Episode IX: Skywalker. Sunrise (2019)

As always, it’s up to you to decide which order you want the most. And don’t forget that there is a third way, but we’ll leave it tied here.
