In recent years, the growing trend is the increase mobile phone screen brightnesssomething that is not part of your imagination but a concrete fact that has now been measured in a study by a group of researchers.

A new study by Counterpoint Research has revealed some interesting trends related to smartphone brightness. According to the report, the increased role of mobile phones in content consumption has led to increased consumer interest in brighter displays. Manufacturers have taken notice, which has led to increased competition for brightness.

It looks like a third of the premium smartphone market, any phone over $600, had a brightness rating of 900+ nits in 2022. The firm notes that this is a 171% annual jump. This is partly due to stable sales of the iPhone, but Chinese manufacturers also played a role, who wanted to create premium devices that could compete with Apple and Samsung.

In 2021, 90% of low and mid-range Samsung phones were below 450 nits. This means that in 2022, the brightness of low-end and mid-range phones has increased by 13%.
