In last decade, book-to-TV adaptations have gone beyond what we originally thought. Hits like Game of Thrones, The Handmaid’s Tale, Big Little Lies, and 13 Reasons Why were early books.
Obviously, it’s a trend we want to see continued because our shelves are full. Stories that would be perfect for the small screen.
When it comes to movie adaptations, you often have to cut the plot and skip key scenes and moments, but there’s more than enough time to develop the stories, characters and leave a good taste in the audience’s mouth.
It’s true that many think that book adaptations, especially fantasy ones, often fail, so perhaps these worlds should stay on the pages instead of being shown on the screen.
Even so, some are as easy to imagine as Game of Thrones or the recently released Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. it’s really worth jumping in the pool and seeing those incredible environments and stories.
Here are 6 books we hope will eventually come to the small screen. Some are complete book series, comics, or little legendary deliveries, but they all deserve to be appreciated by all viewers.

Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson (2005)
watch out for these books they tried to adapt and they were adapted to the cinema but it didn’t turn out as they thought. The first two movies were nothing like the books. We’re facing a series of five books with a few extras that dive into other adventures, so perhaps one movie seems like it’s going to fall short.
The novels are set in a world with Greek gods in the 21st century and follow protagonist Percy Jackson after he discovers that he is the son of Poseidon. This will meet a lot of people Conflicts based on Greek mythology where you have to fight for your way out.
Fear not though, a television series based on the novels is currently in production for Disney+, although little is known at the moment. Still, this saga will definitely get more positive reviews as it is packed with lots of adventures.
KaraSad (2006) by Juan Díaz Canales and Juanjo Guarnido
The first Blacksad book (five books in total) was published in France by Editions Dargaud in 2000 and was an immediate success, allowing the creators to develop the story into an epic. For cat-only lovers, it’s definitely worth it to see it made into a series.
And this is the protagonist, John Blacksad, a big black cat working as a private detective. Although he prefers to use his mind to solve cases, he resorts to violence when necessary and is known to have committed murder before.
Knowing this, we would have been before It’s a purely detective drama with some very funny characters, but dealing with some serious issues. Aside from all the cases it will attend, one last important theme is the backdrop from which it all emerged: the 50s United States in all its glory and violence.
And it was a time of creativity, music, art, science, but it’s also a place where racism, corruption, and political intolerance are allowed to flourish with the tragic results we can see.
The Spiderwick Chronicles (2003) by Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi
Netflix has already adapted the successful children’s book series “A Series of Unfortunate Events” and let’s say that it did not turn out as they thought. Another popular book series at the same time was “The Spiderwick Chronicles”. Sherry focuses on the Grace siblings as they discover the secret magical world of the fantastical creatures around them.
Let’s remember that in 2008 we could all enjoy the movie adaptation and it was really great. Again, The movie tried to combine all five books into one book, which meant that many things were left out.
So let’s imagine a series full of occasional adventures and fantasies, and of course all the great characters we’ve seen in the books and the movie as it should be.
Well, to everyone’s delight, Kat Coiro (“She-Hulk”) He was chosen to direct the first two episodes of The Spiderwick Chronicles.An adaptation of the fantasy book series. Coiro will also executive produce the series.
JRR Tolkien’s The Silmarillion (1977)
With the highly coveted (albeit not well-received) arrival of the Amazon Prime series “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power”, it may seem superfluous to have another Tolkien-based series. However, hethis author’s mythology is so vast that it can only be seen in one TV series or many movies. (which didn’t go too bad either).
The Exile of the Noldor, the Fall of Gondolin, and the sad fate of Turin Turambar are just a few of the stories that could easily cover an entire television series. Finally, Tolkien wrote the equivalent of an entire history textbook.
As we’ve already seen with a small dose of The Rings of Power episodes, the only hurdle to overcome will be the tremendous creativity of fans who have spent decades deciding on the characters’ looks and personalities. He doesn’t want to bend his arm.
Foucault’s Pendulum, Umberto Eco (1988)
Let’s stop for a moment and imagine what could happen to the world of television if we took the much-praised “Da Vinci Code” movie (albeit a pretty average adaptation) and put more intelligence and mysticism in it.
If an adaptation of the Italian author Umberto Eco’s “Foucault’s Pendulum” was made, this is what we would get.
would be about huge conspiracy thriller It’s about the Knights Templar, Jewish mysticism, cipher cracking, numerology, the Holy Grail, and an obsessive treasure hunt with a high IQ that can only lead to insanity.
Yes, maybe it won’t be the typical series you’ll see after going to a weekend party, but it’s absolutely stunning to see how this wonderful and legendary book could be adapted.
Ex Machina, Brian K. Vaughn and Tony Harris (2005)
If it were possible to bring these comics to television, we would be confronted. The perfect combination of political drama and fantasy. For those who don’t know, this chronicles the rise of Mitchell Hundred to the mayor of New York, an engineer who gains the power to talk to and give orders to machines after coming into contact with a mysterious alien artifact.
Just with this, imagine everything we can see and enjoy. Yes, it is necessary not to fall for nonsense and to respect these considerations, the political drama, the complexity of the plots and of course the dark and apocalyptic tone with which it stands out so much.
It’s true that it sounds like something very complex and reckless, but we think it will be a success like “The Sandman”.
