After several trials through the effects of the blow of Will Smith to Chris Rock, Apple has decided to distribute the feature film Emancipation in December, and to launch the film’s teaser trailer that, according to some analysts, could (or could have) returned an Oscar statuette to Smith himself.
Here’s the teaser trailer.
The true story in the middle of the film is that of Peter, a slave in 1863 Louisiana, taken over by John and Bridget Lyons. After a flogging that nearly cost him his life, Peter decides to flee north and join the Union army. The photo the army doctor took of Peter’s back will be published in 1863 and will become a symbol of the cruelty perpetrated against slaves in the southern United States.
Emancipation is a film starring Will Smith and Ben Foster, Steven Ogg, Charmaine Bingwa, Gilbert Owuor, Grant Harvey, Jayson Warner Smith, Michael Luwoye, Ronnie Gene Blevins, and Mustafa Shakir. The feature hits theaters on December 2 and will be released on the Apple TV+ streaming platform on December 9.
Recall that Will Smith’s last film was A Winning Family.
