battle royalethe cult film directed by the master Kinji Fukasaku, arrives for the first time in Italian cinemas on October 20 in the version Director’s Cut restored to 4Kthanks to CG Entertainment: Lega Nerd presents you today, exclusivean excerpt from the movie.

The scene shows the heated confrontation between Takako Chigusa (played by Chiaki Kuriyama) and Kazushi Niida (Hirohito Honda). The scene in the clip is very iconic and also struck Quentin Tarantino, who later chose Kuriyama for the role of Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill: Part 1.
Also, the suit Uma Thurman wears in the film is very similar to Chiaki’s in the clip: Tarantino was very adept at inserting a very fine double reference in his film, both to Bruce Lee in Chen’s last fight (game of death) and at the Fukasaku cinema, insert the suit and present Gogo (within the O-Ren Ishii group) to the tunes of Battle Without Honor or Humanity, a song by Tomoyasu Hotei that in turn paid tribute to the yakuza movie saga of the same name from the 1970s directed by the Japanese filmmaker.

Based on Takami Koushun’s bestseller of the same name (ed. Mondadori), Battle Royale caused a sensation upon its home debut in December 2000, becoming one of the most successful Asian works at the time: Fukasaku’s dystopian thriller was in fact distributed in more than 20 countries. and enters the Top 10 of the highest Japanese collections. Battle Royale has gained the consensus of critics and the public on an international level and has become a contemporary cult in every way. It is considered the precursor of the survival movie as: hunger games and the series squid gameand has also been an inspiration to other great authors over the years (including Tarantino, as mentioned above).

The 4K restoration was performed in 2021 by Arrow Films from an original negative by Arrow itself. The restoration was approved by the screenwriter Kenta Fukasaku (son of Kinji Fukasaku), by the director of photography Katsumi Yanagijima and by Toei Company, Ltd.
