Halloween ends has just been released in theaters, and Cinema Score has reserved a C+ for the final chapter of the horror trilogy, representing the lowest result in the saga to date. And this while Halloween Kills had gotten a B-. Same disappointing result on Rotten tomatoes, where the public held a 57% reservation, while the critics received 38% of the approval. Results lower than Halloween Kills with 39% of critics and 66% of the public. A very distant score compared to the 2018 film, which was promoted by 79% of the critics and 71% of the audience.

The Rotten Tomatoes verdict speaks of a movie:

who was stabbed and shot by a series of missed opportunities.

And what would be the missed opportunities? As we pointed out in our review, introducing some characters and situations that could continue Michael Myers’ legacy gave the idea of a breath of fresh air to the saga, which, however, they reversed at some point in the feature film. . This idea of the bridge between old and new Halloween is also the basis of David Gordon Green’s thought, of which the director said:

The first babysitter scene opening was meant to give the audience something they already knew, but in a different way, with an unexpected surprise. […] I don’t know if this movie made a radical change from the original saga […] It’s true that Halloween Kills offers some creative mayhem, but it’s a Michael Myers work and I wanted this ending to be emotional, atmospheric and romantic. I wanted a love letter for the fans, and I don’t think many expected some of the choices we made.

At the box-office level, Halloween Ends has made $57 million worldwide to date, with $40 million earned at opening. The build-up to the first chapter of the trilogy is tough, given the 255 million Halloween in 2018 and the 131 million Halloween Kills.

Jamie Lee Curtis said goodbye to her Laurie Strode in this chapter, but admitted she never wanted to let go of the character:

I’m 62 and I played Laurie for the first time when I was 19. I never thought I’d make another one, and every time I thought there wouldn’t be a new movie in the saga. So I never wanted to say goodbye to this character. I wouldn’t say goodbye until after death.
