AT American Horror Stories: Drivewhich will premiere on November 4 on Disney+, the moral is straight. Nothing is what it seems in a world full of vanity and depravity. Especially in such a superficial and banal time as the present. Of course, in an anthology that starts with the universe American Horror Story, this seeming lightness is also a form of darkness. So much so that the possible desire to have fun at the same time is a way to die.

So, from the point of view of the series derived from AHS, the impulse of desire and need for love is associated with murder. He makes this clear from his opening scenes, in which the nightclub setting soon turns into a street chase. And all this in a constant sense of threat, danger and fear. AT American Horror Stories: Drivethe question of how love is perceived in our time is directly related to fear and death.

But not precisely because it is a violent act of an inexplicable nature. AT American Horror Stories: Drivethere can be no doubt that the danger of human. A predatory menace that swings in all directions like a common thread running through a series of fast-paced plot twists. Marcy (Bella Thorne) just wants to have fun. He makes it clear by dancing between the strobe lights. The world around him disappears into a haze of sounds and drinks. But it is clear that for the heroine the harshness that surrounds her is a form of satisfaction.

So much so that when she is chased by a car on her way home, the horrific experience does not seem to faze her. It is clear that the scenario American Horror Stories: Drive tries to make it clear that Marcy loves risk. Danger and, even more disturbingly, adrenaline that leaves fear in its wake. An extravagant combination in which history finds its best moments.

American Horror Stories: Drive speaks of fear, desire and inner darkness

For Chaz (Anthony De La Torre), Marcy’s husband and helpless witness to her lifestyle, the perception of risk is complex. On the one hand, he likes the woman in his life to be bold and unstoppable. The plot seeks to explore Marcy as a complex character who builds his own boundaries. But on the other hand, this good and accommodating husband is understandably worried.

A serial killer is on the loose in the city, who also – how could it be otherwise – uses nightclubs as hunting grounds. American Horror Stories: Drive uses the exclusion of risk to counter the obsessions of an era that pays homage to freedom. Also in which violence is part of everyday life and the most ordinary things. Together, both things create a complex scenario. The one where Marcy moves boldly. This woman who wants to have fun and love and be loved doesn’t seem to realize the risks she’s taking. Or if?

As is often the case in the AHS universe, all this speculation about the behavior and decisions of its characters leads to darkness. In this case, much more pernicious and vicious than one might think. As the first chapter of the anthology progresses, it becomes clear that Marcy and her daring desire for adventure are actually hiding something far more macabre. Stranger still, the fearlessness, which for much of the chapter defines character, is a need for gratification, linked, of course, to anxiety.

One of the highest points American Horror Stories: Drive it’s just that the script keeps its secrets. There are at least two plot twists surprising enough to overhaul its entire premise. But the stories are told with such accuracy and good taste that they are unpredictable, far-fetched and forced. The head enjoys the simmer, the surprise, until it becomes clear that all is not what it seems.

However, what may seem like an odd take on a game of cat and mouse immediately reaches its climax. The combination of tension, unhealthy curiosity and menace suddenly becomes the announcement of something more difficult to understand. that’s when American Horror Stories: Drive shows its layers of darkness and triumphs as a premise. Marcy is not a victim and Chaz is not innocent. Actually, each character reaches a confusing point on a challenging map it continues to be confusing and well executed.

American Horror Stories Drive

Creepy and sinister with a touch of exceptional beauty

For his final scenes, American Horror Stories: Drive it showed that he was capable of playing off the franchise’s sophisticated approach to horror. Take it to the next level and also ask uncomfortable questions about its most challenging spaces and locations. Without a doubt one of the high points of the anthology episode and the strongest point of this addition to the wider and more complex universe.
