Surely this has happened to you more than once You open Netflix and you don’t know what to watch. You find a variety of interesting content, but can’t decide. What if I start watching one thing and waste my time just because the other is better?

When this indecision lasts for minutes, what experts call decision fatigue happens. You have so many options that you are stuck not knowing which one to choose.

The problem is further complicated by Netflix’s own algorithm. customize the titles displayed on the screen, depending on tastes, opinions, similar content and other factors trying to adapt to each user. But it makes us see many similar things we might likeproducing what is called election paradoxhinders us even more.

Our Business Insider colleague Elena Neira proposes 11 tricks you can use when you don’t know what to watch on Netflix. Let’s go there!

use different profiles. Because the content Netflix shows is adjusted for each profile, create new profiles or use another family member’s profiles. This way you will discover different content than what you see.

Search by categories. One way to break custom content is, use categories: horror, anime, documentaries, science fiction, etc. That way you can search for specific topics and you’ll see titles that Netflix never recommends. A few weeks ago, Netflix improved access to categories on Smart TVs.

Open hidden categories. Did you know that Netflix segments content? More than 80,000 hidden categories? Here it is maximally refined with episodes like “movies with a nautical setting” or “series with a sad ending”.

You can access these hidden categories using this Chrome extension or with some codes in the card below:

make use of tags. Under the titles of the series or movies, there are some tags that describe its content. Dark, Thriller, Magic, Feel-good, etc.

Use these tags to decide between content that is very similar to you.

Manage my list well. Netflix offers the option to save content that interests you to My List. Use it to put things you like out there, even if you know it will take time to see. So something will be in the “freezer” when you don’t know what to see.

But don’t just pile up, because if My List accumulates hundreds of content, it’s not helpful. From time to time, remove what you’ve seen before and what interests you less.

Rate what you like. Netflix now offers three ways to rate content: It’s not for me, I like it and I love it. Vote for anything you can, even if you’ve seen it before and won’t be watching it on Netflix.

The higher the title value, the more accurate the Netflix algorithm is when it comes to recommending things that really interest you.

Search among the most popular… or not. A desperate option is to look at the most popular list, knowing that while this is absolutely useless, it’s often packed with soap operas, reality shows, and “movies” like 365 days: That day.

Search for things not on Netflix. Do you like Ted Lasso or The Simpsons? Even though you already know they are not on Netflix, put them in the search engine. It will suggest sequences similar to this one.

Take advantage of previews and trailers. Deciding what to see from a photo is complex. Preview the mini trailer or watch the full trailer.

Last resort… I’ll be lucky… In the Google search engine, I feel lucky, there is a button that takes you to a random page. Netflix has implemented something similar.

When you scroll for a while or the suggestions are finished, you will see the button. play something. Tap it and random content will be played. Just like the old TV, when there was nothing you liked on the 4 or 5 channels, you left everything as long as the TV was on…

Hopefully if you follow these tips, you won’t have to reach for this button. cheer up!
