Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness showed much more than different versions of Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the evolution of Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is a much more mature work than the bulk of the stories in the narrative. This allows us to talk about the key issues of modern society, such as vulnerability, through Christine Palmer.
Although the following spoiler text focuses on who the Sorcerer Supreme was, some ideas related to him may apply to Wanda Maximoff as well. Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness It stands out for being a more philosophical, dramatic, dark film than an action movie and light jokes. They are in it, of course, as well as explosions and fantasy. But these resources are not the center of the story.
Yes, it’s character transformation. The two most powerful superheroes on Earth (and perhaps the universe) are going through different crises. The most obvious of these, Scarlet Witch, began in WandaVision; while Stephen Strange was discovered over time in movie.
Stephen Strange and Arrogance
From Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme, Benedict Cumberbatch’s character was haughty, self-confident, able to solve almost any medical case in which there was hope for life and he felt some interest. To better understand his way of life, it would be convenient to note the importance the narrative places on the clock and the passage of time, which he can control up to a certain point.
For Stephen Strange, his hands and knowledge were all it took to succeed. He had fame, recognition, self-confidence, to the point of arrogance. Played by Christine Palmer Rachel McAdamshe thought only of himself; to the point of hurting her with his actions and comments. The accident changed everything. The person who felt himself beyond the bounds of good and the sea loses his security.
The one who had the last word in the various contexts in which he dealt with himself had to learn to listen in Qamar Taj, to believe in forces outside the sciences on which he based his life. Stephen Strange revealed himself to an unknown universe with the intention of initially trying to reclaim his former life. Until he realized that this past no longer represented him as the present he had.
So, this tough, arrogant, megalomaniac personality, who proved himself as a doctor, influenced this new stage as a magician. It is what it is and nothing more. The detail in the case of Stephen Strange was that he began to think beyond himself for the benefit of humanity.
Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness
and consciousness of the protagonist
Stephen Strange, now the Sorcerer Supreme, takes this advice from the Ancient One: “Silence your ego. (…) Stop thinking about yourselfHe acknowledges that his work as an activator and protector of the mystical forces is beyond his hands and his time. Initially, he must take care of the Earth, and then part of the dynamics of the various timelines, as shown in Spiderman: No Way Home.
Although his abilities allowed him to act as a High Warlock, after the snap Thanos and the next click Hulkhis role has changed. Wong, who was his mentor, bore such a title. Still above his companion, Doctor Strange refused to acknowledge him. That’s why it’s significant when Wong explains to him that, as part of the ancestral tradition, all mages bow to the Almighty. All but one for the most part Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness.
A subtle way of saying that Stephen Strange is still sticking to his old role; one that he may or may not perform autonomously, but which, in the new context, does not belong to him. What happens to the character all this time, from separation from the profession to a new role in the magical forces? He gradually forgets himself.
Doctor Strange,
character evolution and vulnerability
At this point, Doctor Strange appears as a man capable of resisting the Scarlet Witch, perhaps the most powerful being among those who have magic as their main argument. But before that, the role of Christine Palmer is essential. During their wedding, in a separate moment between them, she asks him if he is happy. Stephen Strange, true to his rocky nature, hesitates, perhaps suggesting that the question is leading him into some dark, uncomfortable area.

The issue is raised and the superhero fights his way to a new threat while the wedding is still going on. Again, at a time when he must confront himself, Doctor Strange is called to action: someone is in danger and he must act. A dynamic that repeats itself over and over again outside the universe in which it resides.
The appearance of Defender Strange and Supreme Strange, seduced by the idea that the end justifies the means, helps to better understand Stephen Strange’s roadmap: he is a character who is destined to look after the interests of others, even against his will or forced to bear the weight of these decisions (like many others superheroes).
The curious thing here is that Doctor Strange seems to be handling this burden well, including the death of his sister. Until the fate of its various variants shows him the side with which he talks little and which in one time line or another affects him: his emotions. This unflappable creature, capable of resolving almost any human and mystical conflict, has a deep fear when it comes to his emotions.
Phrase Christine Palmer
Brené Brown, one of the most cited contemporary writers in terms of emotionality, explained: “Vulnerability is neither victory nor defeat; it is to have the courage to see and be seen when you have no control over the outcome.” That’s what Doctor Strange does when Christine Palmer says:I love you, in this and in all universes“.

Release the offer like a shot. Perhaps recalling another reading the Old Woman gave him: “You have a great ability to help. You have always stood out. But not because I longed for success, but because of your fear of failure. Just as you cannot fully control the time your watch shows, you cannot have any control over what happens after the “I love you” message has been released. And so he concludes his discovery, the recognition of his own vulnerability:It’s not that I don’t want to love or be loved, it’s just that I’m afraid“.
A broken heart cannot be healed with a spell, and love is not taught in the pages of books. Thus, with this confession, he entered the area where failure is possible and completed the transformation proposed during Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness. This haughty character allows himself, this time, perhaps for the first time, to give in to his emotions and fears in order to get his truth across to Christine Palmer without exercising any control over the outcome. The message is clear: the highest value is what appears when a person recognizes himself in the mirror and is not afraid to embody it outside.
