While the stolen data did not include the actual content of the calls or text messages, it did include communications records showing what numbers the agents used over a period of time.

The leak raised concerns that FBI informants’ personal information could be exposed. AT&T paid hackers $370,000 to delete stolen data. The extortion suspect was arrested in December.

This hack comes amid other hacking attempts, such as that of the Chinese espionage campaign Salt Typhoon, which targeted several US telecommunications companies.
