James Gunn would change the end Flash at the last moment. The movie, which was announced in 2014, has gone through dozens of delays and will serve as a reboot of the DC Extended Universe. So the change in ending shouldn’t surprise anyone.

But it’s amazing that this comes days after the film’s premiere at CinemaCon, which runs from April 24-27. The report comes from Kay C Walshwhich also guarantees that Flash finally completed, and that some links to justice league Zack Snyder were removed.

As he explains, the end of the film will be different and a bit more vague. This rumor is in line with another mentioned in February by Grace Randolph and Humberto Gonzalez, who explained that James Gunn asked for several superheroes to be removed from the film’s ending. Including but not limited to Superman (Henry Cavill), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Supergirl (Sasha Calle), and Batman (Michael Keaton). Although the last two do appear in the feature film.

sudden change Flash responds to a complete restructuring of the DC Extended Universe after James Gunn and Peter Safran took creative control of the studio. The goal is to streamline the franchise, achieve a sense of coherence between productions, and create phases similar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. To do this, it was decided to completely restart it.

The Flash will reboot the DC Extended Universe

But rebooting the cinematic universe also needs a story rationale. Flash, where a superhero opens a door to the multiverse, seems like the perfect — and almost logical — way to do it. The first trailer shows how Barry Allen, in an attempt to travel back in time, creates alternate realities that have variants of famous superheroes. That is why we will see Batman again, but in the performance of Michael Keaton, that is, the version of the character from the 90s.

The film’s ending tends to be before and after the DC Extended Universe. Leaving behind Batman or Superman played by Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill, to see new origin stories for new variants of these superheroes and thus reboot the franchise.

Given that Flash was originally just another movie in Zack Snyder’s grand vision, it makes sense that its ending would be changed to fit the new goals of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Flash opens June 16 in theaters worldwide. Directed by Andy Muschietti from a screenplay by Christina Hodson. It stars Ezra Miller, Ben Affleck, Ron Livingston, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Keaton, Michael Shannon, Maribel Verdu, Antje Traue and Sasha Calle.
