Xbox has announced that it will block the use of unofficial accessories, i.e. accessories not manufactured by Microsoft or its hardware partners. authorized by the appropriately licensed console.

The company explains on its support page that the use of these unofficial accessories “may negatively impact the gaming experience on Xbox consoles.”

Xbox has provided clear instructions for identifying official accessories, stating that they must bear the brand logo between triggers and must be registered before use. Official accessories are designed to work seamlessly on PC and mobile devices as well as the Xbox platform.

The company has implemented a notification that will appear when users connect an unauthorized device to the console, identified by the error code 0x82d60002.

After receiving this message, users will be given a period of two weeks to use the accessory, and at the end of this period, the accessory will be blocked from use on the console.

After this period, people will be given a new error code (0x82d60003) and advised to contact the store or manufacturer to return the unauthorized accessory.

Xbox clarified that this measure will not affect third-party Xbox controllers that are part of authorized hardware manufacturers that appear on the ‘Designed for Xbox’ list. These will continue to be supported and can be used without restrictions on consoles.
