In a recent interview with GamesBeat, the head of the Sonic team, Takashi Iizuka, stated that the new Sonic Limits will chart the course of the next one 10 years of the saga. Iizuka has said several times that the “turning point” in the history of the Sonic series was the transition from 2D to 3D gameplay. Now, with the arrival of Sonic Frontiers, the series will embark on a new course, another turning point thanks to the introduction of new open zones and a wider game.

What we do now is take the next step. We are almost in the third generation. We know we’re showing fans something new that might not make sense to them yet.

But we really wanted to think about where to get Sonic next 10 years What kind of gameplay do we need to build to keep people excited for the future? Sonic Frontiers is the next step for the next 10 years. We hope the fans believe in us and appreciate what we show them. We can’t wait for them to play it and really understand what it’s all about.

We remind you that Sonic Limits will propose an Open Zone design, that is, with a fully explorable and playable map of the world. The game takes place in the Starfall Islands and players can enter lush landscapes with Sonic’s trademark skills and speed, but with some interesting new features.

Sonic Frontiers will be available on end of 2022 on PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC.
