Call of Duty and especially Warzone have a serious problem with cheaters. At least until the release of the first season of Reboot, the number of cheaters was growing. Ricochet, the game’s anti-cheat system, has improved significantly, but is often slower than those that create cheating software.
However, besides hacks, there is another element that drives players crazy and which is used en masse: third-party hardware and software that allows you to add additional functions that, without being cheats directly in the sense Wallhack or from aimbotis an advantage over legitimate players.
Since last year, Activision has implemented a policy of banning third-party hardware such as Cronus. although it is still widely used. More sophisticated is the software, which bypasses the game’s restrictions and generally works faster than Acitivison can limit.
Of all of them, there has been a popular software for a few weeks now called ReWASD, which, unlike classic hacks, is extremely cheap and easy to use. In fact, it has become quite popular in games such as The final And Call of Dutyand was not considered change anti-cheat game engines. Essentially, this software offers the addition of a layer that tricks the game by simulating input methods.
Or in other words, it allows the game to believe that it is being played with a controller when in fact it is being played with a keyboard and mouse. And it makes sense that when the game thinks a controller is being used, aiming assistance. Thanks to this, scammers benefited not only from the speed and precision of using the keyboard and mouse (swipe, better motion control, use of macros…), but also from aiming assistance and rotation of controls:
Small steps, but completely insufficient for the number of cheaters in Call of Duty
Call of Duty has now announced that if its Ricochet anti-cheat system detects this type of software, it will automatically close the game. This is a good step, but not enough. Much of the community, including some of the most important players in the competition, are asking that if one of these Cronus-type programs or hardware is discovered, prohibit directly to the user and their system and they will not be able to play again.
The truth is that because of these simple restrictions, many believe that the game punishes innocent legitimate players more for mass messages and their consequences. shadowbanAs for the rampant scammers, which usually have no real consequences.
Something that, in the case of consoles where there are no traditional hacks, should be easier to outright ban players using third-party hardware from playing again. After all, it shouldn’t be that difficult to permanently ban users using a device whose USB ID is on the blacklist, knowing, moreover, that the system perfectly detects it.
The truth is that under the current circumstances, it seems that the only way to avoid scammers is to take the Valorant route, which anti-cheat is at the highest privilege level rootwith the privacy issues this entails.
