The gadgets that appeal to you the most don’t have to be the most expensive or revolutionary. Many times, Those who manage to win your heart, just make this desire possible or destroy the wall that you so dreamed of. A great proof of this is the Moom tool I talked about a few weeks ago. This is an extremely simple utility, but it has become one of my must-haves. But let’s not digress. In this text, I do not intend to dwell on this utility again – although I recommend taking a look at it if you use macOS. The case of Mum is just an introductory example of the true hero of this text: Razer Kishi V2.

The Razer Kishi V2 is essentially a mobile phone controller. An accessory that allows you to turn your mobile phone into something like a Nintendo Switch.. And yes, it’s not the first. As the name suggests, there was the Razer Kishi V1. You can also find similar products from other brands.

But the fact that the Razer Kishi V2 is not the first or revolutionary device does not detract from its dignity. On the one hand, because he does his job particularly well. On the other hand, because it’s not the product itself that really matters; the doors you open.

Razer Kishi V2 Key

Before I go into detail about my experience with the Razer Kishi V2, I should lay out what has been the foundation for me that gives meaning to a product like this: Xbox Game Pass. More specifically, the role cloud games which Microsoft has been developing for years.

This isn’t the first time I’ve tried what used to be called xCloud. But I must admit that it’s been a long time since the last time. What difference does it make, dear reader? The leap forward made by Redmond in this regard is enormous. It went from promising to a really enjoyable experience.. And I’m not talking about the catalog of compatible games, which is also quite interesting, but parameters such as latency, stability or image quality.

To illustrate what has been mentioned, let me take this text to my area. I spend most of my time in front of the console playing racing games: F1, Gran Turismo, Assetto Corsa, etc. They have always been my passion. And in those names, let’s remember delay is key. Braking a tenth of a second too late results in a waste of time or even a race-ending crash.

The last time I tried Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming, the service was suffering from a lag that made it impossible to enjoy games like the ones mentioned. Especially if you tried to play without assistance (disabled traction control, manual transmission, without ABS, etc.). It wasn’t a huge delay, but it was enough to keep me from enjoying or feeling comfortable.

However, regarding this the feeling was completely opposite. Xbox Game Pass cloud gaming has gone from being a promising service I watched from afar to seriously considering renewing my subscription so I can continue to play on the go without missing a console. Especially since at the end of the year, Microsoft will let us run any game we have in our digital library, not just those available on Game Pass.

And no, it’s not perfect. On a specific occasion, streaming Suffered stuttering despite a good connection. But, I insist: this is not the norm. The crashes are so random that, at least in my experience, they don’t dampen the overall experience.

By the way: it is important to remember that in order to enjoy this service, yes or yes, you must have a good internet connection. Can you enjoy Game Pass cloud gaming on 5G network? Sure, but stability – especially in terms of latency – will not be the same as in a fiber optic network. And this factor, obviously, does not play into the hands of Microsoft, but of the operators.

icing on the cake

If you associate a service like the one described above with a product such as the Razer Kishi V2, the experience is really satisfying. The feel of the buttons, for example, is really good, especially X, A, B, and Y. The triggers also have good travel and feel, which is very useful in games where you need to play with their progressiveness.

joystick On the other hand, the Razer Kishi V2 is very similar to the Nintendo Switch in terms of shape and behavior. The experience with them is satisfactory, although I must admit that, coming from normal console controls i miss having a bit more travel. I say this for several reasons:

  • Titles Game Pass were designed with the Xbox controller gameplay in mind, whose joystick they have more travel.
  • A little sticks with more travel, they also make it easier to upgrade to the Kishi V2. If you play a lot on console or PC, you’ll appreciate having feeling as far as possible between both devices.
  • Finally, more travel is also useful in many games where progressive movement is important.

The connecting bridge of the Razer Kishi V2 has a large width, therefore, any phone, even a very large one, can be connected to the docking station without any problems. If we take a closer look, yes, it could be a bit more solid, although this is more of a suggestion for improvement than an actual flaw.

The product itself is quite light, which is no mean feat, given that the weight of a mobile phone, which is weighing more and more, must be added to its weight. It also conveys a pleasant feeling to the touch. – this is facilitated by the rubberized finish of some parts – and the elements are well located.

On the other hand, the inclusion of programmable buttons on the top, configurable from the Razer Nexus app, and a USB-C port on the bottom of the Razer Kishi V2 that allows you to charge your phone while we keep gaming are appreciated.

which Not so appreciated that there is no generic version of the Razer Kishi V2.. The company has released an Android version, with an iOS version coming soon. But why isn’t it the same for both platforms?

The difference between a USB-C port and a Lightning port is the most noticeable hurdle, but I think a solution like DJI’s is likely to be viable in such a product. For those unfamiliar with DJI, the drone brand includes various interchangeable ports along with their products’ controls so that you can use one or the other phone with the aforementioned controls fuzzy.

This is a minor issue, but given that people change their cell phone from time to time, making the Razer Kishi V2 universal would be a pretty positive thing to extend its useful life.

Should I buy the Razer Kishi V2?

After the above, I think my answer to this question is beyond doubt. The Razer Kishi V2 has become one of my favorite products of the year.. It’s not groundbreaking, but with Game Pass, it opened the door I’ve been dreaming of for years: the ability to play the games I love so much on a console, wherever I go, in a convenient and easy way.
