The Sims 5 has been cancelled. But just because they’re not going to launch it under that name doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. And the latest leak, coming directly from Maxxis, seems to point specifically at The Sims 5, regardless of the form or name it hits the market under. And we say “form” because everything indicates that this will be some sort of expansion for The Sims 4 that will come out at some point. Something that has been in development for many years and has been officially confirmed is Project Renethat everything points to it being more or less a successor to what The Sims is today.
First images Project Rene were leaked online, and the truth is that the Sims community didn’t like them at all. The idea behind The Sims Project Reneis that it will be a free-to-play multiplayer game as well as a daily life simulator like The Sims, and that it will be a live service that will be constantly updated. Although not installed, it looks like it will co-exist alongside the current game. However, it appears that the game’s art direction and what was leaked from it is not convincing in any of its aspects.
Of course, no matter how much criticism is thrown at the game, we must keep in mind that Project Rene The Sims Project René is still in development and many of its elements may change radically. In fact, graphics and features are expected to continue to evolve and improve until its launch, for which we certainly don’t have a date.
Goodbye The Sims 5, hello Project Rene!
Project ReneOnce again, this is not The Sims 5 or an expansion of the current version, but rather a supporting project to the The Sims universe, which time will tell whether it will completely or partially replace the main game. And EA’s plans for The Sims after the cancellation of The Slims 5 are quite clear: they intend to create a rich universe of games that feed off each other as a community:
Additionally, this game differs from the main game in many ways. These are some of the things that users didn’t like: there is no character creator (at least for now), it takes place in the same “Parisian” area and includes daily missions that give you Simoleons that you can spend on pre-designed outfits. And, logically, this includes certain aspects of microtransactions and premium currencies that make this game closer to a free-to-play mobile game, with all the good and bad implications, than a classic game like The Sims 4.
At the moment there is not much information about what path this game will take, which we say is still in development and will compete among The Sims fans for its time, considering that we already have The Sims as a mobile game as well as the full game. Will this be a unique game at launch? Only time will tell.
