The PlayStation 5 is one of the most sought after and desired products on the market. Out of stock, and those that go on sale, scatter in seconds. Sony wants your success console compatible with its normal production and they have an idea of how to achieve it, as they already did with PS4.
Sony’s idea is to develop a new PlayStation 5 model that will receive a one-off modification in the middle of fiscal year 2023 and launch around September 2023, the sources who revealed the plans explain.
According to them, the new console will completely replace chassis A, B and C, which have been produced since the launch of the console. Remember, we learned a few weeks ago that Sony launched the PS5 with a new, lighter design.
The console, which is currently called the PlayStation 5 D-chassis, will have almost the same hardware as the existing consoles already on the market, but with a key change in its design, as we will now explain.
The most surprising thing about this new PS5 is that the console will have a removable drive.. The removable drive will connect to the PlayStation 5 via an additional USB-C port on the back of the console.
This new PlayStation 5 console is expected to be sold separately or bundled with a removable drive. It is also believed that the reader will be available for purchase separately, so that if it breaks, there is no need to buy a completely new console.
Sources have hinted that while the new removable drive is portable, it won’t ruin the look of the console and will be attached to it without looking external, which presumably means the new PlayStation 5 will look similar to the existing model.
Sony console changes
However, the new removable drive could mean the new PlayStation 5 iteration will be thinner and lighter, something Sony has tried to effectively implement with its latest PS5 models.
It is clear that Sony plans to produce 18.5 million units of the new PlayStation 5 console in fiscal 2023. and only 12 million units of AC chassis consoles as they begin to be phased out.
Sony Interactive announced that As of June 2022, the company has shipped over 21.7 million PlayStation 5 consoles.. If these production figures are to be believed, they suggest the company is expecting a significant increase. Will they reach PS4 level?
