As promised, the movie from Super Mario Bros. he finally showed up with a first trailer on the occasion of the special Nintendo Direct. The video, which you will find below, allows us to see this extraordinary reinterpretation of the Mushroom Kingdom and the characterization of its various characters. The video shows Bowser planning to attack a castle populated by penguins and then moves on to the next scene, the one where Mario is suddenly thrown into the Mushroom Kingdom.
With the video, we can finally see the features of Mario, whose face was already revealed yesterday by an image leaked on the net. Although this new version of Mario is very similar to its video game counterpart, the face in particular shows a whole range of differences compared to the 3D illustrations of the games, starting with the visibly smaller eyes and the presence of a greater expressiveness that allows makes less cartoonish than usual and more realistic.
We remind you that the Super Mario Bros. movie is directed by Aaron Horvath and will see Michael Jelenic and Chris Pratt as the voice actor of the protagonist. The cast also includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Peak.
At the end of the Direct, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that work on the film is progressing rapidly and that the film is currently being finalized, much like video games.
Super Mario Bros. the movie will be released in theaters Apr 7, 2023.
