Google has officially announced that Google Stadia will be closed and that will refund all purchases! of Stadia hardware and digital content created through the Google Store and Stadia Store. The news came straight from Google’s official channels with a press release that the date the server was shut down service is scheduled for January 18, 2023.
For many years, Google has been investing in multiple aspects of the gaming industry. We help developers build and distribute game apps on Google Play and Google Play Games. Gamemakers reach audiences worldwide on YouTube through videos, live streams and short films. And our cloud streaming technology delivers immersive gameplay at scale, said Phil Harrison, chief executive officer and vice president of Stadia.
A few years ago, we also launched a consumer gaming service, Stadia. And while Stadia’s approach to consumer streaming gaming is built on a solid technology foundation, it didn’t get the appeal we expected from usersso we’ve made the difficult decision to discontinue our Stadia streaming service.
We are grateful to the dedicated Stadia players who have been with us from the start.
Harrison also pointed out that Google will do it refund all purchases created through the Google Store and Stadia Store by mid-January 2023, adding that the Mountain View giant now sees the opportunity to do this too Applying Stadia Technology in other parts of Google, such as YouTube, Google Play and in augmented reality (AR) services, and to make it available to industry partners. However, no specific details are known at this time.
