From Google Stadia we can recall I’m sendingor play through streaming by opening a Chrome tab and pressing Play. What we won’t remember is games were or if we were signed. And it is for this reason that the company decided to close the platform.

Google is shutting down Stadia, its cloud gaming service. The service will remain active for players until January 18, 2023, and Google will refund all Stadia hardware purchased through the Google Store (controller, Chromecast Ultra, etc.) and all games and DLC purchased from the Stadia store.

While Stadia’s approach to consumer game streaming was built on a solid technological foundation, it didn’t get the user experience we hoped for, which is why we made the difficult decision to shut down our service. This was announced today by Vice President and General Manager of Stadia Phil Harrison.

Harrison says Google sees opportunities to apply Stadia technology to other parts of Google such as YouTube, Google Play and its augmented reality efforts, and the company is also planning “make it available to your industry partners, where do you see the future of games“.

Chronicle of a predicted death, game streaming was not what Stadia was selling

It’s long been known that Stadia is leaving, especially when Logitech announced its new cloud gaming device last week, and Stadia was one of the few cloud gaming services not mentioned.

But Stadia has been dealing with rumors of its demise from the start. Google has a habit of killing projects just a few years after launch, and Stadia seemed like a prime candidate for early demise.

There were rumors last year that it would close after the number of games released on the platform dwindled. and the company will close its own game development studios. The video game sector believes in streaming, but not in the expired Google Stadia offering.
