The PS5 will be three years old next year. So, it’s time for Sony, as with previous generations of its console, to introduce the first major hardware redesign. In recent months, there have been reports of ps5 thin and its supposed characteristics, and now the Japanese company itself is looking forward to surprises for the next year.

In an interview with Famitsu, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Operations at Sony Interactive Entertainment, was asked about the possibility of new models such as the highly acclaimed PS5 Slim. Although the manager did not go into specific details, he hinted that in 2023 we will have news in relation to this topic.

“I can’t go into details right now, but hopefully they are looking forward to next year,” he said. This is the first time such an important figure in Sony speaks about this. It can almost be taken for granted from his words that in 2023 we will see the first major version of the PS5. The question that remains up in the air is will it be PS5 Slim only? Or also the Pro variant with more features.

In the previous generation of consoles, both Sony and Microsoft took advantage of their hardware’s average cycle to introduce a more powerful console than the original version. However, in the case of the Japanese, the reception of the PS4 Pro was not entirely positive. It failed to sell as expected, and its performance lagged behind its direct competitor, the Xbox One X.

Sony will certainly learn from the mistakes made in the past, so if they are really going to release the PS5 Pro, they won’t repeat them again. However, it is important to note that to date there have been no reports on the specifications of this equipment.

What do we know about PS5 Slim

Let’s move on to the PS5 Slim digital concept

The exact opposite is happening with the PS5 Slim, which has already leaked some features. Last September, Tom Henderson, who has established himself as a reliable source in the video game industry, assured that the first redesign of the PlayStation 5 there will be a removable diskallowing consumers to choose their preferred game format.

You might think that this is nothing new because currently Sony already has two versions of the PS5 for the same purpose. The difference is that if people with the digital edition want to upgrade to the physical format or use the disc games they already have, they should definitely purchase the standard edition. However, with the PS5 Slim, they only needed to buy a reader.

Henderson added that this strategy will enable Sony to introduce smaller and lighter design. Of course, in terms of performance, do not expect changes in the PS5 Slim.

Later, in mid-November, A leak noted that production of the PS5 Slim will begin in the second quarter of 2023. for sale in the third quarter of the same year. Like Henderson, he noted that he would have completely new and more compact exterior design. You don’t even need a support to place it vertically or horizontally – as is the case with the current model. On the other hand, Sony would be able to reduce power consumption.
