We won’t surprise anyone if we say that Genshin Impact is a huge success. Several games as a service, completely free to play (until you beat their gacha system of course) they offer such a huge open world and deep RPG gameplay with anime characters and Zelda graphics.
The miHoYo game (called HoYoverse outside of China) was released in September 2020. on PS4, PS5, PC, iOS and Android. And since its launch, it has generated over $3 billion in mobile revenue (Google Play and App Store).
This data comes from a report by analytics firm Sensor Tower (via GamesIndustry.biz). On average Genshin Impact earns $1,000,000,000 each semester. This is only on mobile devices (not counting revenue from the PS Store or Steam).
In fact, the game continues to evolve. In the first quarter of 2022 the number of active users worldwide increased by 44% compared to the same period last year.
This makes Genshin Impact so much better. the highest grossing gacha in the first quarter of 2022: grossed $567 million, followed by Lineage W, Uma Musume Pretty Derby, Monster Strike and Rise of Kingdoms, which range between $185-272 million.
It’s also unsurprising that China is the top market for Genshin Impact, with 30.7% of mobile gaming revenue coming from China, followed by Japan (23.7%) and the US (19.7%). Although this is a worldwide phenomenon, it is clear that the Asian market is the majority of miHoYo.
The role-playing game is constantly updated with new characters and regions. The next update, 2.7, will introduce new characters such as Yelan and Kuki Shinobu. However, its release has been delayed indefinitely, and fans believe that the Nintendo Switch version has been canceled: we haven’t heard anything since its announcement.
