South Korean manufacturer Samsung may make changes in the supply of processors for the upcoming smartphones of the “FE” series, the Fan Edition of the devices of the main phone family.

According to website Business KoreaMediaTek could be one of the main drivers of chip supply for the next two models in the line – possibly Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23 FE.

The specific component chosen was not disclosed by the sources consulted. Currently, MediaTek leads the chipset market mainly due to its strength in cost-effective models, while Qualcomm is in second place by a small margin.

Exynos losing power?

Samsung’s own production and design Exynos processors are used in this smartphone category, including the current model currently sold in Brazil, while MediaTek is preferred in the company’s intermediate lines. Also allied, Qualcomm partially occupies the catalog of premium devices in certain regions.

According to the report, the South Korean company is having trouble promoting its processors. So, if approved, the change would mean a loss of ground from Exynos chips to outsourced components, especially in regions like Asia.

Samsung has not made an official statement on the matter.
