Wildberries reported that it stopped 70% of so-called auto-repurchases thanks to computer software algorithms. Self-purchase is the purchase of goods by the seller himself. This scheme is used to raise the rating and the possibility of creating positive reviews.
During the first month of operation of its own analytical algorithm, Wildberries managed to stop 70% of the so-called “self-repurchases”. A market representative told RB.RU about this.
“Self-purchase” is called a “gray” promotion scheme, when the seller buys the goods himself. The mechanism is used to raise the seller’s rating, increase the position of the seller in the search results and the possibility of creating positive reviews about the product.
“These actions are officially prohibited by the rules of the platform and the offer agreement. […] In addition, small businesses and small local producers, who find themselves in a situation of unfair competition, suffer losses due to self-purchase,” said Wildberries.
Wildberries algorithms monitor seller transactions: orders and returns, redemption amounts, delivery addresses, perform review content analysis. If suspicious activity is detected, the data is transferred to Wildberries administrators, who, if necessary, take action.
“Depending on the volume and nature of the violation, the seller may receive a warning or a penalty,” Wildberries emphasized.
