Sberbank is going to introduce payment by biometrics this year. The credit institution is launching the replication of a new network of terminals, writes Izvestia.
Sber terminals account for about 70% of all devices in retail. In total, the bank’s equipment park is estimated at 2 million terminals.
The new devices will be equipped with cameras, the customer will be offered payment options, including biometrics.
“You smile, the payment has been made,” said Sergey Shubochkin, head of Sberbank’s Procurement division.
According to him, when developing a new payment method, the organization tried different options. Biometrics is one of the most difficult, because you have to make sure that there is a live person in front of the terminal, and not their photo.
Liveness technology solves this problem, explains Shubochkin. Efficiency is achieved through built-in 2D or 3D cameras. The Chinese retailer Alibaba is already using this technology to pay.
Earlier, a bill on administrative penalties for publishing citizens’ biometric data without their consent on the EBS received Cabinet support. It is planned that the fine for such actions will increase five times.
