The Yakut port of Tiksi on the Laptev Sea, by decision of the Russian government, will become international and open to foreign ships. The corresponding decree was signed by Mikhail Mishustin, the Cabinet press service reported.

Tiksi port will be internationalized to increase cargo turnover

This pass is part of an investment project for the construction of a deep-water port center near the town of Naiba. The new measures are designed to help develop the Northern Sea Route as a whole and increase the cargo turnover of a particular port, which, according to experts, can reach around 30 million tons per year.

Other advantages of the project, which are noted separately in the official statement: the creation of new jobs, an increase in transshipment capacity and the fight against the pressure of external sanctions.
