In March-May 2023, Russians’ interest in crypto wallets decreased by 35% compared to last spring. They were mostly popular with citizens aged 21-35. In 2022, the proportion of users in this age category was 61% and in 2023 it decreased by 10%.
Citizens over the age of 50 have become much more interested in digital assets during this time. This age group showed the largest increase in traffic share, although in absolute terms there are still few such users, RIA Novosti learned.
In May, the authorities decided to abandon the idea of creating a national crypto exchange. Instead, it is planned to establish rules for the operation of such organizations.
- In October 2022, the representative of the Ministry of Finance, Ivan Chebeskov, pointed out the need to allow Russian companies to make international payments in cryptocurrency. At the same time, he stressed that the country should create its own reliable cryptographic infrastructure.
- At the end of November 2022, a draft law on the regulation of mining and cryptocurrencies was submitted to the State Duma, which was later criticized by the Russian crypto community.
- In April 2023, they developed a bill on the creation of a national crypto platform. It was supposed to form a registry of digital currency operators, monitor their compliance with the necessary requirements, and license their activities.
